The National Science Museum, London offers
access to images of thousands of fascinating objects from the Museum’s great
science collections. The Exploring Space gallery contains a host of rockets,
satellites, space probes and landers. The children were able to find out how the
space age started in 1957 with the launch of Sputnik 1 and how we’ve gone on to
launch thousands of satellites around Earth, send spacecraft to other planets,
walk on our Moon and peer into the heart of our galaxy and beyond.
Later the children watched Flying to the
Moon at the IMAX 3D CINEMA. In 1969 three astronauts dared to go
where no man had gone before; the moon. Today, the Science Museum presents Fly
Me to the Moon 3D, an animated IMAX film that will take you back to that
historic moment. With truly immersive 3D animation you will be transported deep
into the action to become part of this amazing story. Join three tween-aged
flies as they sneak on board the Apollo 11 mission for an incredible space
adventure. Fly Me to the Moon 3D will introduce you to space exploration and the
momentous occasion when the world was united for man’s first steps on the Moon.
The difference between the IMAX Experience and
watching a film at a conventional cinema is the feeling that you don't merely
watch a film - you feel as if you are actually there - inside the human body,
fighting for survival in Antarctica or plunging into the depths of the sea. The
key to this experience is cinema's largest film frame, being projected by the
world's most sophisticated projector onto a huge screen that encompasses the
viewer's peripheral vision.
