Black History Month

The Kenyan Community Bedford young people’s club celebrated the Black History Month on 30th October at the Bedford Museum in Bedford. The event included African story telling, costume, drumming, dancing and a variety of African foods. The event was organised by the Bedford African Support project in conjunction with the Bedford Museum.

Black History Month happens every October in the UK and provides a wonderful occasion to celebrate the diversity of our society and the contributions Black and Asian men and women have made to the development of British society, technology, economy and culture. There is no one who has overall responsibility for coordinating or arranging Black History Month. Today nearly 6,000 events and activities are run throughout the country by a range of organisations. One of the main aims is to heighten the confidence and awareness of Black people to their cultural heritage.
