Background
Kenya Community Bedford was founded in 2005. A day trip by Kenyan women and children to Brighton seaside highlighted the need of unity after discovering that we all faced the same problems of social exclusion. Thereafter a group of families met regularly and worked hard to bring to the attention of the wider community the need for an organisation which would cater for the needs of our marginalised community. After a series of activities together the group formed KCB with an aim of uniting Kenyans and Africans in Bedford to address the needs of these communities to; combat social exclusion, foster personal and community development; to help integrate into mainstream society and contribute to the local community. A committee inclusive of a chairman, treasurer and secretary has led the organisation till incorporation. The committee works hard and meets once a month to achieve its goals. From humble beginnings, the organisation continues to develop and sustain beneficial partnerships with a range of stakeholders and agencies in the public, private and voluntary sector.
